About Mackenzie
Mackenzie is a young multi-sport athlete with a history in hockey, box lacrosse, field hockey,and speed skating. She joined the sport of Skeleton in 2021 after being invited to a try out event. She was immediately taken with the thrill of this fast paced sport. She began training at Whistler Sliding Center in winter of 2021, and was invited to compete after her very first training camp. She spent much of the next season balancing work, training and school, opting to take many courses online so as to graduate on time. After graduating in 2022 Mackenzie was lucky enough to find an employer who understands her need to attend training and competitions, all of which occur out of town and require time off. Her 2022 season showed the results of her commitment and by the end of the summer training in 2023 she was invited to join the Canadian National Team, a lifelong dream.
The 2023 season was truly an unforgettable journey filled with thrilling moments, as Mackenzie traveled across North America to participate in numerous events and training sessions within the North American Cup series. Celebrating a remarkable achievement, Mackenzie proudly secured the 7th position overall in the series and notably emerged as the leading Canadian female competitor for the NAC.
As a proud resident of the Okanagan Mackenzie was thrilled to receive a prestigious nomination for the Kelowna Civic Award of Female Athlete of the Year for 2024. This incredible recognition placed her among the top three finalists, showcasing her remarkable talent and dedication to sport in Kelowna, as well as her commitment to representing her hometown on the international stage.
About Skeleton
Skeleton is a captivating winter sport that involves single athletes sliding headfirst on a sled down an icy track, offering a similar adrenaline rush to bobsledding. The exhilarating nature of Skeleton is amplified by the high speeds that can surpass 129 km/h, making it a daring and exciting sport to watch and participate in. There are just 3 tracks available in North America, situated in the mountain regions of New York, Utah, and British Columbia. These tracks serve as crucial training grounds for aspiring skeleton athletes, providing them with essential facilities to hone their skills and pursue their sporting ambitions.
